About Jillian

Family photos aren’t just a pretty picture to hang on the wall. They’re time capsules of this very moment that you can share with future generations, and a celebration of who your family is, both individually and as a unit. Really good family photography doesn’t force anything—poses, smiles, connectedness. Instead, it brings out your natural connection, beauty, and playfulness together. It’s my mission to help you and your family feel at ease in front of the camera, and to capture authentic, emotion-filled images that represent who you really are.

Creating Memories with your People Matters.

I fully believe it's a part of your family's legacy.

Before I spent my days taking photos of sweet families and raising my own, I taught kindergarten and 1st grade. It was 10 years ago that I hung up my teaching hat and took my photography side gig full-time, but I still adore connecting with children and bringing out their natural joy. While I live for gorgeous lighting and snapping the perfect shot, photography is even more than the technical aspects to me. It’s an opportunity to connect with families and tell your story in a genuine, true-to-you way.

I'm Jillian.

Sacramento photographer, ex-teacher, wife, & mama to 5 littles.

When I was little, my parents split up, and it instilled in me this crystal clear desire to help make families feel treasured and connected in any way that I can. I had a hard time reconciling my parents’ divorce at the time, but years later, in a weird way, I can see it now as almost a blessing. It forced me to examine my own relationships throughout my life and prioritize my family in a way I’m not sure I would have, had it not been for their struggles. And it led me to wanting to make other families feel so special in their own unique journey, and to help them authentically document their stories to cherish forever and ever.

I’ve been lucky enough to have my work featured in People Magazine, The Today Show, and Entertainment tonight, and to have worked with renowned influencers and celebrities. But beyond the fun and fancy names, I promise I’m just a regular mama who loves her Peloton, Diet Coke with pebble ice, daily affirmations, and endless snuggles with my cute fam and firefighter hubby.

My aim is to make getting family photos as easy (and fun!) as humanly possible. That means I’ll be here to support you every step of the way, from delivering all the information you need before and after booking, to helping with location, family outfits, posing, and feeling natural in front of the camera. I’ve even had husbands who had previously dreaded family photos come to me after our session saying what a ball they had—which, yes, I do consider the highest of high compliments!

On the side, I also teach aspiring and beginner photographers how to build their own meaningful photo businesses, and host an in-person and online Photo 101 workshop that teaches you how to use your fancy DSLR camera, the easy and fun way. (You can learn more about that side of my work here!)

Sharing education + creating authentic art + working with a variety of beautiful families = the career of my wildest dreams. I’m truly humbled to get to do this work, and after years of commitment, a lot of intention, and some lessons learned along the way, I’ve been able to create a business that fulfills me to my core. It’s my greatest joy to connect with families and use the art of photography to tell their story. Now, let’s tell yours!

The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy.

Seriously! My aim is for you to have a fun, effortless time making memories with your family. That’s it. I’ll make booking, planning our session, and even figuring out what to where or how to pose a breeze. I’m so not into forcing anything, but rather letting your family’s own connection, love, and joy shine through while I document it in a natural way. And yes, we will have lots of fun during our time together! Most people even tell me they forgot there was a camera there (mhmm, hubbies included), which totally makes my day.

It’s true. I absolutely love working with families and kiddos, from the biggest personalities to the shiest and quietest—and everyone in between. To me, each family has their own distinct personality, quirks, and sweetness to them, and it’s truly my biggest honor to get to know everyone and create art that brings out your fam’s unique qualities and that you can hang onto forever.

And trust me, some moodiness or a little tantum (or even a big one) doesn’t scare me. Did I mention I have 5 babes myself with my sweet firefighter hubby? That, plus my background in teaching kindergarten and 1st grade, has taught me how to work with every personality type out there. I promise, I’ve seen it all and absolutely love the process of getting to know each and every family member. I make sure to get down on their level and connect with kids first thing so that everyone feels comfortable from the jump. (And, you know I have a few mama bear tricks up my sleeve to help little ones who just don’t feel like cooperating.)

As a retired teacher & mama to 5 littles, I promise to make this as easy as possible, for everyone.
